Less mindless hustle…more mindful magic..

So you’re heading into the new year and you know you want to do things differently. You can feel that something needs to change, even in a small way to give you more space, time and clarity…but where to start?

Here are my 2020 intentions to move from fast to slow, from mindless to mindful and to invite more creativity, energy and magic to flow…

1.     A month long social siesta – Taking a break from social media is like a detox for the mind. If you’re craving more space and time in your day removing these everyday apps from your phone, will create more time and mental space. Even those with a healthy relationship with the digital realm will greatly benefit from a shift back to reality. Taking time away from the gram reminds us of what’s truly important. We can be in the moment instead of capturing it. Unfocused energy leaves a breath in the mind space to cultivate more imagination and curiosity.

2.      The Artists Way – The ultimate exercise in rediscovering and cultivating creativity. All you need is THIS book, your favourite notebook + pen. The 12 week guided program is a timeless classic. The experience invites you to write each day and take yourself on a weekly artist date. Our mindset arises from our words and our mindset determines how we feel and frame our life….so writing matters and this book will guide you to open new doors within your mind and take you on a journey to unearth your hidden talents.

3.     Clearing the calendar for solo time – This might seem indulgent….or at least it did for me the first time I booked myself an Airbnb for the weekend for a solo adventure with my pup. Once I let go of the idea of indulgence and replaced it with the idea of deserving, I was able to fully embrace the enjoyment of some solo time. Whether the idea seems impossible due to family or work commitments or you’re just afraid of being alone…try it even once and you will experience the magic of clarity, deep rest and space to ground and feel like YOU again. If a weekend is impossible, try an afternoon when you can take yourself on a date or spend at least 4 hours alone and see what magic comes your way.

4.     Redefining my true north – Undergoing a process of redefining your core inner values is a sure-fire way to set yourself up for success. As we grow our preferences change and if we don’t find the time to become aware of our evolving needs, then we become misaligned to our true north. By questioning and reimagining how we spend our time, money and energy and evaluating what we think about most, the blocks to our success and action steps we need to implement change become very clear. Check out THIS blog post on how you can do a simple reassessment of your own values… or join me for a mentoring session where we dive deep and make it personal.

5.     Be in nature every day – If you’re lucky enough to live near the sea or near lush greenery then there is no excuse not to get regularly acquainted with mother nature. There is something so calming and clearing about connecting with the land each day. Even a quick dip in the ocean, a bush walk with the kids or if you only have time to watch the sunrise from an open window, this connection recharges your spirit and opens the mind to vast new possibilities.

6.     Give Yourself Permission – Take the time to choose 3 new things to give yourself permission for in the new year. Ask yourself “what is my heart asking for?” “What are the activities that calm and renew me?”

These 3 things need to create feelings of gentleness, integration, and ownership. It’s not something you should do, but something you want to do.

For example one of mine is – “I give myself permission to not check my emails before work so that I can write, meditate and exercise in the morning and start the day slowly and calmly”.

Carry these 3 things into your new year and integrate from day 1!
