How to create a sacred space for your inner artist to flow.

Just as we tend to our gardens to create the right environment for our plants to grow and bloom, your inner artist needs an inspiring atmosphere for creative incubation.

Before you dive in to meet a deadline or create your next piece of work, feel into how you can create a sensory experience that feels sacred, safe, playful and fun.

Here are 5 tips to creating a sacred experience for your inner artist.

  1. Set the mood.

Lighting candles, burning incense or essential oils stimulates right brain activity and activates the senses, turning on your creative and emotional centres of the brain.

2. Make it personal.

What tokens, adornments, symbols, images or objects bring you a sense of ease, comfort and creative stimulation? What colours make you feel held and inspired? Decorate your space with these pieces so they are always in view.

3. Create space.

Embrace the mess of your creative space when you're in flow. When you're feeling blocked, it's a time to sort, clear, clean and organise. The act of creating space can entice your inner artist out to play.

4. Set the vibe.

Make a new playlist or have a few to hand for when you need to up the energy, or when you need to soothe, rest and flow. I like to make a new playlist for each season of my creative process. Check out my Spotify and choose your vibe.

5. Hold an intention.

Before you begin your work, pause. Take a deep inhale, long exhale and set an intention for your practice. What are you hoping your artist will reveal to you? The act of setting an intention directs your energy and your inner creator to unfold in that direction.
